There are mysterious follies hidden among the foliage at the estate of Stackpole, Pembrokeshire -and it is easy, breathing the musky woodland scents, to be transported to a magical realm while in the multi-talented company of performers who make up 'Taking Flight', in their wonderful re-visioning of Romeo & Juliet this week before touring across Wales.
With the same delight with which you encounter each natural phenomenon of curious beauty on any woodland walk, be surprised and amused, saddened and roused as you are immersed in this adventure of the tale which has inspired so many imitators, but is here most sensitively evoked as a journey into our own hopes, desires, prejudices and dreams: appropriate for a company which celebrates the diversity of humanity by total inclusion of disability access -not merely for it's audience but within it's personnel -and to such an extent that our awareness is of the strengths of the performers while we delight in the development of the tale. You may have experienced 'theatre in the round', but that doesn't usually mean around the audience: yet without intrusion, and with lively wit and charm the players seemingly effortlessly involve their audience in the story. This liveliness pervades the entire performance, where each player's individual mastery of expression has been nurtured within a complementary whole, to develop a presentation where all exude justified pride in their joint ownership.
